Accessibility
What we aim for
Every page should meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard used across Canada. You never need to tell us anything about yourself to use any of this.
Always on
- Everything is built to work with a keyboard alone. The first Tab on every page offers "Skip to main content".
- Every field has a label, and every page has headings in order, so screen readers can find their way around.
- Messages like "Saved" and errors are read out by screen readers when they appear.
- Pages are built to fit the screen when you zoom in, and follow your device's own settings, such as reduced motion.
- Nothing times out and loses what you've typed.
- Match scores are always written out ("Strong fit"), not shown by colour alone.
Display options you can choose
Larger text, high contrast, a bolder focus outline, less motion, more space, underlined links and an easier-to-read font. Turn on any that help on Display options. They're linked at the bottom of every page.
How we check
Before a change to a page goes live, an automated check opens the main pages in a browser and tests them against WCAG 2.1 AA, both as they normally look and with every display option on.
What we're still working on
- Testing with screen readers (VoiceOver and NVDA), and with people who use them every day. Automated checks can't catch everything.
- Resumes you download as a PDF have real, selectable text, but aren't yet tagged for screen readers. The Word version reads well with one.
- Job postings come from other sources, and we show their text as it's written.
Tell us when something gets in your way
If any part of Clarisa is hard to use, please email hello@clarisa.ca. Tell us the page and what happened. We'll reply, fix it as quickly as we can, and help you with what you were trying to do in the meantime.
